We kept our commitment for this year, and we now have a global outreach with the launch of Kalpavriksha website.
What are we targeting?
To plant 1 Million Trees in NCR Delhi. We are fast approaching our target of 100 trees this year.
What had we done until now?
- 65 Trees
- 7 Varieties (Amaltas, Neem, Mango, Gulmohar, Ashoka, Jamun)
- 5 Locations (all within Janak Puri Area)
- 6 Volunteers
- 1 Leader
- 9 Donors
- 95% Survival Rate (2017) [In 2016, Survival Rate was close to 50%]
What have we done to spike the Survival Rate?
Last year, when we started Kalpavriksha, the survival rate was close to 50%. We learnt from our experiences. We took numerous steps to ensure that the survival rate for our trees increases. Some such steps taken this year:
- Planted trees which are at least 2 years old
- Fenced each tree
- Tagged a volunteer for each tree
What makes us unique?
- Easily Replicable Framework : The entire framework is easily replicable. Anyone can join our framework, follow a well defined process, and start his or her own mini NGO.
- Anyone can be a Leader : You can be a leader of this NGO - at peer with all other leaders - thus avoiding any hierarchy within the organisation. This is a 100% top flat organisation. This makes us easily expandable - with no constraints of distance. All you got to do is to "Apply for a Leader" from the website.
- 100% Transparency of funds : Each leader can collect funds and is bound to display the book of accounts online for everyone to have a transparent look on every donation and every expense made. No leader can accumulate more than INR 10,000 at any instance. Funds need to be utilized first before collecting more. Have a look at our "Account Book" online.
- Anyone can volunteer : You can volunteer to take care of a certain set of trees if you do not want or do not have the time to lead in your area. Volunteering is a 5-10 min commitment twice a week to improve the air quality around your own area, and an amazing give back to the society.
- Anyone can Donate and then Track Donations: You can donate if you do not wish to be provide your services as a volunteer or leader. You can then track your donations with respect to the trees that were planted with your donations.
- We do not just plant trees : It is never about just planting trees. There is just too much happening on tree plantation. It is all about taking care of them, nurturing them until they are big enough to take care of themselves. Our volunteers ensure that they survive for at least 3 years - after which they are in the lap of Mother Nature.
- Track Lifespan of a Tree : Volunteers take snaps of trees planted at their managed locations, and upload it to this Website. That way, you can see your tree grow. Nothing is as satisfying as your donations or volunteering efforts being put to right use, and you being able to see the change from your own eyes.
What all can you do from the Website
Each Tree on the ground is provided with a unique ID number. You can track each tree online - via the same Tree ID that each physical tree is labelled with. Have a look at who is volunteering and taking care for a specific tree, who has donated funds for that tree, who is leading the Kalpavriksha in that area, view the tree location and variety, check its current Status and even view all its pictures since birth. If you are a Donor with Kalpavriksha, then you can also look at the trees that are growing with your donations (after logging in)
