13 Dynamic Lessons from Scott & Davenport's Book 'Declutter Your Mind'

Do you feel overwhelmed by your thoughts? Are you struggling with anxiety about your daily tasks?

Read on...

The truth is that we all experience the occasional negative thoughts. But if you always feel overwhelmed, then you need to closely examine how these thoughts are negatively impacting your lifestyle.

The solution is to practice specific mindfulness techniques that create more "space" in your mind to enjoy inner peace and happiness. With these habits, you'll have the clarity to prioritize what's most important in your life, what no longer serves your goals, and how you want to live on a daily basis. And that's what you'll learn in Declutter Your Mind.

After having read the book page by page, I, hereby, list down 13 earnest lessons from this awesome book.

These are the examples that stuck with me.
These learnings are worded and appended in a way that makes it easier for most of us to understand and absorb.

For now, if you wish to know about 'Declutter Your Mind', and what I learned from it, here you go...

1/ Very little is needed to make your life happy. It's all in our way of thinking.

2/ Deep, focused breathing which doesn't stop at the chest but goes on to fill your lungs and pop the tummy out, is a wonderful technique to relax your mind and make it calm. Practicing it before meditation or sleep helps.

3/ Meditation is another technique to declutter your mind. Stay silent and observe the thoughts coming and going without guilt. Let them come. Let them go. Try and observe your breathing or remember God instead of the random thoughts that keep going past. The gap between two random thoughts will slowly keep increasing and you will be able to focus on what you wanted to focus on. The aim is to keep re focusing on your breathing or God (as the case may be) so that your mind starts to give in to your endurance, rather than the other way round. The idea is to start having control on your mind, and your thoughts.

4/ Your thoughts are nothing more than thoughts - not your reality. You are not your thoughts. You are a separate entity. Your thoughts can be changed, almost instantly.

5/ Change your negative thoughts. They are usually never 100% true. Prove it to them via some concrete examples from your past life.

6/ Change & Contentment can happen simultaneously. Life is not an 'either-or'.

7/ Loving meditation allows you to pass on the feelings of love for anyone with which you wish to improve the relationship. Pray for the wellbeing, enjoyment and happiness of the person. Look for their positive qualities and speak to them out loud.

8/ It is hard to reach out to someone who has hurt you. But doing this is far less painful than the torment of lingering on to the past pain.

9/ When you mentally replay a situation over and over, your perspective becomes the ultimate truth for you. Then, it seems impossible to view the situation from any other angle.

10/ Forgive people. You don't need to forgive them in person if they are unwilling. You can forgive them in your heart. Ultimately it is for your benefit.

11/ Forgive yourself for your own past mistakes. It is important for you to do this in order to move on in life.

12/ Conflict in relationships is uncomfortable and unpleasant, but it also provides the perfect opportunity for learning and establishing a deeper and more meaningful relationship.

13/ Training your mind to stay in the present is the mental equivalent of tiding your house. It's a habit you must repeat daily in order to stay on top of it.

Hope these 13 earnest lessons will help shape up your thought process to some extent and help you appreciate life much better.

  1. It's true that meditation and deep breathing are the best answer to be in present and away from worries. We should take complete responsibility of our life as every moment gives us the chance to change; the way we live, the way we think, chance to mend our relations. Moreover it gives us chance to change the way we have lived till now, if that becomes important.

    1. Yes, and doing all this needs the luxury of time, other than priority. And today's gen is short of time.
