8 Timely Lessons from the Movie 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan'

This is just our 4th attempt at publishing lessons from a documentary or a television movie or series. But learning is everywhere, and we must continue to evolve with changing times.

If you or members of your family are trapped in the vicious social media trap, this is a must watch movie, especially for Millennials, Gen Z and of course Gen Alpha.

For those who have missed out reading some of our posts which captured lessons from some of the best-selling books, they can click here to read the book lessons.

Synopsis:
Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (Translated from Hindi: Where Have We Lost Ourselves?) is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age drama film. The film stars three friends who navigate their goals and relationships against the pressures of social media. They eventually drown in these perils of social media before coming out of it and learning how to live life gracefully.

LESSONS FROM THE MOVIE

So, here are the top lessons that I learned from this movie.
Read them slowly and try to see if you wish to imbibe one or more of them in your lives.

1/ Addicts do not chase drugs, they are trying to just escape from their real-life challenges.
Life is to be lived, and living involves not only cheer and joy but facing tough situations head on.

2/ We have got so distracted by screens (mobiles, laptops, tabs, TVs) that we have forgotten how to look inside ourselves. All the answers are within us.
We do not need too many answers from outside, especially from social media, where lives are mostly fake.

3/
Keep your phone upside down and look up at the real world. Look life in the eye, because life is to live - without filters, without lenses. While eating, with family, while talking to someone, never keep looking at your phone. Respect the one in front of you. He or she deserves more attention than your phone. He or she is more worthy than your phone.

4/
Take it easy. Keep it real. You do not need too much to be truly happy.
Social media may make you feel that everyone round you is happy and that you are probably the only one who is not, but that is not the true picture. You do not need all that you are seeing on social media to be happy. You actually hardly need much to be happy. In most likelihood, you already have what is enough for being happy.

5/
When you come close to your own reality, only then will people come closer to you.
Be real. Be yourself. Be true. You will automatically start to attract people who display the same characteristics as you.

6/
Stop the comparisons. There is never another you, and you do not need to pretend to be someone else. You are unique. Only your future can be better than what you are now.

7/
Be grateful. Say Thank You, wholeheartedly every single day.
Start the day with offering your gratefulness to God. You have a lot. Maybe you are striving for some more things, but first, learn to be grateful for what you already have.

8/ Find your tribe. Because when your friends are on your side, you do not need any followers.
Stop chasing followers. A few good friends are more than enough. The need for followers is never ending. It is another race just like the rat race to keep earning money.

  1. The simple truths of life, however as simple as they are, we as human go great lengths to make our lives complicated by comparing ourselves with 'happy others'.

  2. Very rightly stated . Sadly with the tech boom and looking at the 'fake' lives on social media has started the rat race to acquire material possessions . People are moving farther from the real happiness

  3. It's so true that any addiction, whether of drugs or alcohol or mobile or social media or over-thinking or other, fundamentally indicates that one is trying hard to run away from life's challenges.
