Kalpavriksha donations now eligible for tax rebate under Section 80G

Kalpavriksha donations are now eligible for tax rebate under Section 80G. This makes it a win-win as you can now help elevate the environment around you, and earn tax benefits as well.

These are exciting times, as we get a new shot in the arm, to make renewed efforts towards our target of planting a million+ trees, and doing our bit to elevate the environment around us.

What is Section 80G of Income Tax Act?

Section 80G is a facility available in the Income Tax Act which allows taxpayers to claim deductions for various contributions made as donations. The deduction under the Act is available for contributions made to the specified relief funds and charitable institutions. Not all charitable donations are eligible for deduction under Section 80G. Only donations made to the prescribed funds can qualify as a deduction. The Government of India introduced Section 80G deduction to encourage people to donate. The Government, by providing income tax relief, intends to motivate people to make more donations to worthy causes.

Under Section 80G, the amount donated is allowed to be claimed as a deduction at the time of filing the assessee’s income tax return. Deduction under Section 80G can be claimed by individuals, partnership firms, HUF, company and other types of taxpayers, irrespective of the type of income earned.

Journey so far

After 4+ years of this wonderful and enriching journey, and with support from all donors, volunteers and leaders, Kalpavriksha has now been certified for Section 80G tax rebate by Income Tax deptt, Government of India. This is a testimony to all the patience, persistence and hard work from each one of you.

The road ahead

As we expect big donations to pour in now, along with corporate donations. While this is exciting time to grow the organization bigger, this also puts more responsibility on our shoulders. We must consistently remind ourselves of the commitments we made when we founded this organization:
- Continue to utilize the funds in the best possible way.
- Quick utilization of funds, so as to minimize the holding period.
- Utmost importance to caring of trees, thus increasing their survival rates.
- Continuing to be 100% transparent on fund utilization and tree plantation activities.
- Bring in more organizations to collaborate with us, so that we can utilize each other's strengths.
