5 Simple Techniques for a Relaxed Sleep

Not having a relaxed deep sleep at night? Usually, a hard days work should be enough to get you a sound sleep, unless your mind is working overtime. Here are five simple and practical tips that can help you get your perfect sleep instantly...read on...

Sound sleep is inversely proportional to the number of thoughts that your mind is playing with, every second. The lesser the speed of thoughts per second, the more are the chances of getting a sound sleep. Here are some tips that help you reduce your thought speed, thus enabling a sound sleep, and a smiling, beaming and a fresher you the next morning, ready to face the next set of challenges - happily.

(1) Wind up your day
If there are critical pending tasks, its better to close them and then go to bed. Even if it means, going a little late to bed, so be it. A sound sleep of 5 hours is much more rejuvenating than a disturbed sleep of 8 hours. Assuming that you carry a "To Do List" (mandatory for any true professional), make sure that you close all critical pending tasks for the day before you hit the bed.

(2) Maintaining a To Do List
Just the act of maintaining a daily To DO list, striking out the completed tasks, adding new task as soon as they pop up in your mind can eliminate waste thoughts being created drastically, and this simple act of maintaining a To Do List can go a long way to ensure a relaxed set of thoughts when you go to bed. You should not be thinking during bed time whether there is anything you are missing on. Your To Do List should have told you that, if there was any such task. You can maintain such a list on a pocket sized notepad or diary, your smartphone or anywhere else - but for sure, have one !!

(3) Revisit the Day
Few disturbed interactions during the day can keep playing through your mind through the night, not allowing you to slow down the speed of your thoughts. This is more prominent if you have been on the wrong side of those interactions, and the guilt of the same is haunting you. Make it a practise to revisit your entire day just as you lay down in the bed, tick mark whatever you did wrong, and submit it to God, promising never to do that again. HE will absorb it, with glee, for his love is unconditional. Just letting HIM know about your mistakes will allow your thoughts to slow down.

(4) Focus on your breathing
When you lie on bed, start deep breathing, and try to focus on your breath as it goes in, and is it is exhaled out. Do it for a minute or so. Our mind has a peculiar habit of settling down and dropping all other thoughts when we focus on breathing, for it considers breathing as the most vital process for survival, and therefore gives it priority over anything else.
2-3 minutes of concentrated deep breathing should be enough to trigger a relaxed sleep.

(5) Reverse the negatives and visualise
If there are still any negative situations of the day that are disturbing you, try and reverse them into how you would handle them next time. Whatever has gone is gone. Only forward is the way. Today is the first day for the rest of your life. Say, if you are disturbed about shouting at your family member unnecessarily, reverse and visualise how you would like to talk to them next time when a similar situation occurs.

These 5 simple steps have been time tested and proven again and again to let people slow down their thoughts and let them off to great sleep. A relaxed sleep will rejuvenate you and prepare you for the challenges of the next day. A fresh mind and body is a must to experience Happiness Unlimited.
