Getting started is critical

How critical is starting something new, even if there is not enough clarity on the way forward? Extremely critical. In fact, in most cases, getting started is the only way successful people get going....Read on..

I was sitting with Rohit, my all time buddy.

He was driving me to the airport, where I had to catch a flight for my Singapore seminar. We had been all time buddies since childhood. It was early morning on a chilly winter month in Delhi, and the weather was cold with dense fog. The visibility was pretty low. We could barely see 50 m ahead. I was not sure whether the flight will take off on time.

"Be careful, it's a very foggy today. I am not sure even if the flight will take off on time."
I cautioned Rohit.

"Yeah, I can't even see much ahead. It is really dense today." reverted Rohit, with all his focus on the road ahead.

"But you know what Rohit, the beauty of this fog is that as you keep moving forward, you can see what you were unable to see just a few moments ago."

"What is so beautiful in that? I mean that's a normal phenomenon and happens every year." remarked a puzzled Rohit.

"See Rohit, this phenomenon looks normal to you when you drive a car, but its beauty lies when the same fact is applied to our life."

"How?"

"You see Rohit, whenever we start on a new goal or a venture, we have no clarity on how we are going to reach the end. Everything is hazy, foggy and unclear in the beginning. Most of us get worried with that. The fear of failure is so high that most people often tend to put off their venture. This is just like deciding not to drive the car because you cannot see up to the airport. On the other hand, the fact is that you should get started. As you start to move, you will realise that you can just see a little more, and move forward, and then a little more and so on..."

"So true, and what a beautiful way to correlate this to life." remarked Rohit, as we approached the airport.

We cannot afford to wait for the perfect situation to get moving with our goals. Movement is critical. Momentum is vital. Handle whatever you can foresee, and move on, and find the way to tackle the problems as they arise. So many times, the problems that we foresee before moving on, just vanish as we start to move towards our goals.

Getting started is critical.
